LASER WELDING
NOV 06
XL edm have introduced a Laser Welding facility to their range of services on offer at their "high tech" facility at Stockton on Tees. This machine is the latest technology from Rofin Bassel and is suitable for low & high volume production levels, as well as prototyping. Coupled with a rotary axis, to enable precision tube welding, this machine represents a major step in technology and further confirms XL edm's position as a world class supplier.
HIGH SPEED EDM HOLE DRILLING
MAR 06
With a Z Axis of 450mm, this new capacity high speed edm
drilling machine is capable of drilling 0.15 to 6mm dia holes. A
swivel head for angle drilling and a massive throat height make
it an extremely versatile machine. Producing either start holes
or production drilling of hardened materials such as carbide,
this machine is capable of drilling a 2mm hole thro 250mm thick
steel in a matter of minutes.
FURTHER INVESTMENT WITH MITSUBISHI
JAN 06
Due to the unparalleled success of its first Mitsubishi machine,
a second machine is now installed and running. An FA20 machine
with an increased throat height of 450mm gives Xledm an
increased capacity in the machining of larger components.
Connected to the phone system, this machine will text the
operators to alert them during, or at end of machining, or if
there are any potential problems. Mitsubishi now claims to have
33% of the worlds wire edm market, we are not surprised.
NEW MITSUBISHI PURCHASE PAYS OFF
MAY 05
After comparing several machines to find the ultimate in speed & quality, in production tests, Mitsubishi came out on top in all respects. It is now 6 months since the machine was installed and it has produced a phenomenal 3,500 hours of continuous production. Due to its low running costs & reliability, Mitsubishi has now become the benchmark at Xledm, from which all other machines will be judged.
YEAR END - RECORD TURNOVER
APRIL 05
The 2 years since moving to it’s new modern premises in Stockton on Tees, Xledm Ltd has increased its turnover from £330K to £740K for the current year end, & is on line to meet expectations of £1.2 million t/o by 2007.
HASS HIGH SPEED MILLING INTRODUCED
NOV 04
15,000 revs, Auto Tool Changer & Rennishaw Probing has significantly advanced Xledm’s toolmaking & machining facilities since the introduction of a HAAS High Speed Milling Machine, to be used in the manufacture of precise medical components.
FORMULA 1 CONTRACT
Nov 03
Xl edm
has been successful in winning contracts to produce F1
components in this highly competitive market, & is looking to
become a key member of the supply team as it further increases
its manufacturing capacity coupled with full 24hr working....
INVESTMENT PAYS OFF
Mar 03
Further
investment in the form of the worlds fastest edm machine, the
CHARMILLE 440cc Wire Eroder & the Mitutoyo CNC Vision Measuring
System, have helped XLedm win new contracts in the medical &
nuclear marine industries.
Now able
to cut with a range of wire from 0.10dia to 0.33, it ensures
XLedm stays ahead in the technology stakes, as it can offer the
fastest possible cutting speeds, of up to 440 sq mm/min.
Additionally, particularly useful for the MEDICAL industry, is
the CNC Vision System, which can measure, record & store images
of fine detail with an accuracy of less than 3 micron.
LARGER PREMISES REQUIRED Jan 03
Success in securing new contracts, has allowed Xledm to relocate
its Edm facilities to the newly built Primrose Industrial Park
at Stockton on Tees. This Prestigious development has superb
facilities for Xl’s future development.
Digital phone lines, broadband access, excellent communications
and a modern factory layout impressed managing director Colin
Thompson, & along with support from Stockton Council, has
enabled Xledm to achieve considerable growth since relocation.
FIRMS LIFT OFF
INTO ORBIT Feb 98
An engineering firm is reaching for the stars after supplying
parts to a Nasa space shuttle project. The contract is the
latest success for Tes (Tyneside Engineering Services Limited).
which has seen business go into orbit since it was bought out
six months ago. After taking over the company new owner Colin
Thompson, originally from Hebburn, has restructured the company
and invested more than £250,000 in the latest computerised
precision wore erosion machines. They can cut metal fast down to
a couple of microns and it is this kind of precision which is
winning the company new orders on this planet and beyond. When
Colin took over at Tes, which is based on the South Tyneside
Council-owned Royal Industrial Estate in Jarrow, annual turnover
was stuck at about £120,000. Six months on, the firm is now on
target to break the £400,000 mark for the first year of a new
ownership thanks to winning contracts with Rolls-Royce, Siemans,
Kvaener and Entek International. As well as wire erosion
cutting, the firm is also offering a more traditional precision
engineering service through its skilled workforce. Colin said
"On taking over, I inherited some quality machines and a skilled
workforce that was not being maximised. " As the new wire
erosion equipment attracted fresh business, the demand for
traditional precision metal working also increased. "On top of
that , we are now offering firms a top quality press and mould
tool repair and maintenance service through our ne tool room
which we have just opened opposite our existing premises on the
Royal Industrial Estate." Components made by the Jarrow firm are
now heading into galaxy after Tes supplied Durham firm Bede
Scientific with an integral part of its new compact x-ray
machine which will sit aboard the next space shuttle.
Engineering firm moves into
the medical market Aug 98
A
firm has used precision engineering skills to win new business
in medical markets, including key-hole surgery. Jarrow based XL
edm - formerly Tyneside Engineering Services - has won contracts
to manufacture components for sophisticated equipment used in
micro surgery, in liver transplants, for sports injuries and in
fighting cancer. The company was formed less than a year ago,
but has already established itself as one of the region's
leading wire erosion specialists - a technique which uses wire
to cut stainless steel and similar materials with extreme
accuracy. The system is also very fast. Colin Thompson, who runs
the business, said edm's engineering skills had attracted a lot
of interest in the UK and as far away as the USA. He said "We
offer a quick turnaround for one-offs orders and we have now
been successful in developing sophisticated techniques to
machine large batch production work. "This has made the
wire-erosion process competitive, when priced against other
machining processers, such as milling and gear cutting." After
initial trials with edm, one medical company switched large
amounts of its production over to wire erosion. Mr Thompson
said: "This, in turn, led to a further two companies placingwork
with us a word of mouth spead our recent success. "It has
secured the long-term future of the company." Capitalising on
the hi-tech approach, edm has also benefited by offering
companies the oppertunity to download their drawings on the
Internet directly into the Tyneside firm's computers. The
machining process can then take place immediately, saving time
and reducing the risk of mistakes caused by multi-handling of
drawings. XL edm employs seven people. Last year its turnover
was £350,000. It is looking to increase it to £400,000 this
year.
